Alphabet Launches ‘Outline’ VPN Service For Journalists

Google has always been a friend to journalists. Now, the company is proving its loyalty with an open-source tool that grants news organizations safer access to the Internet.
Developed by Alphabet-owned think tank Jigsaw (formerly Google Ideas), virtual private network Outline lets users directly own and operate their server—no third-party trust necessary.
The VPN was designed for everyone—from the office luddite to most liberated geek—with a simple setup, strong encryption, and auto-updating servers.
“Journalists need safe access to information to research issues, communicate with sources, and report the news,” Jigsaw product manager Santiago Andrigo wrote in a blog announcement.
A virtual private network encrypts Internet traffic by bouncing it through a remote server. But while it may shield you from the prying eyes of your Internet service provider, users are still at the mercy of whoever controls the VPN.
With the exception of Outline.
Outline Manager lets you can create a server and share access with unlimited accounts (via Jigsaw)
“Much of Jigsaw’s work involves defending news organizations from digital threats that try to block access to information,” Andrigo wrote. “We created Outline because news organizations need reliable, private Internet access to make information accessible and meaningful for their reads.
“That’s a mission we share with the news industry,” he continued. “And a more informed world starts with access to information.”
Plus, retaining your own server makes it easy to control traffic and maintain Internet speeds.
(For the technically inclined: Outline supports modern AEAD 256-bit cipher encryption and is resistant to probing and stronger against protocol fingerprinting, “which makes it significantly harder to block by modern deep-packet-inspection software.”)
Windows, Android, Chrome OS, and Linux users can sign up online for Outline Manager: Use your own infrastructure or a cloud provider to create a server and share access with unlimited accounts.
Still, an early-stage product, Jigsaw expects to release versions of Outline for Apple’s macOS and iOS platforms “soon.”

Blogging vs Vlogging? What is the difference?

Every brand or individual wants to get more visitors to their blog. There are basically two traffic generation strategies blogging and vlogging to generate huge amount of traffic and gain potential customers.
Blogging is all about writing articles and vlogging is all about creating videos.
But the question is what to choose? Blogging or vlogging?

Blogging

Blogging is like an online log, where an author can share his thoughts, experience or whatever he wants to share with his readers about any specific topic.

Advantages of Blogging

1. Easy to set up

It’s very easy to set up a blog. You don’t need extended technical knowledge to create a blog. There are several platforms like WordPress, blogger, Thumblr… making our life simpler for creating a blog.

2. Does not require massive equipment

To create a blog, you need not to have a lot of equipment. All you need to have is A computer and a good internet connection.
Get huge traffic to your site, by using SEO and proper promotion of your content on social networking sites, blog directories … and earn decent amount of money by using Adsence ads, affiliated marketing…

Disadvantages of Blogging

1. Need to know about SEO

SEO is all about ranking a site in search engines. To generate traffic to your blog, you should have good knowledge about SEO. Learn On page SEO and Off page SEO and implement them.
  • Use proper title for your blog posts.
  • Use High frequency and low competition Keywords in your articles.
  • Use images in your blog posts and try to have at least one image for every blog post

    2. Update your blog regularly

Another thing you must notice here is, you need to update your blog on regular basis. Convert your visitors to regular blog readers by providing them quality stuff that they are searching for via your articles.

    Vlogging

Vlogging stands for video blogging in which one can share his thoughts or whatever he wants to share with others by creating videos.

    Advantages of Vlogging

    1. Doesn’t require professional writing skills

Unlike blog, you don’t need professional writing skills to create a vlog.  If you can create quality videos, you will get huge visits with minimal SEO effort and earn money from your videos.

    2. You can get more user engagement

Generally  people used to watch videos rather than seeing of written stuff. So by creating good vlogs you can get more traffic and more user engagement.

    Disadvantages of Vlogging

    1. Need expensive equipment

To create a vlog, you need to spend some amount of money for equipment.  You need to have a camera to shoot high-quality video and a professional video editor software like adobe after effects.

    2. Difficult to edit after submission

We can easily edit blog post after publishing but when it comes to vlogging editing is not an easy job. If you find any mistake in your uploaded video, you need to delete it and edit the original one and again upload the video in your channel. Sometimes editing is difficult, so you may have to re-record the video.

    3. It takes time to vlog

It takes time to record a video, edit the video and upload the video. You require 2-4 hours for a video. So you must spend some amount of time to create vlog and to become a good vlogger.

Blogging or vlogging? It’s up to you

Its depends on your opinion whether to choose blogging or vlogging? If you have good writing skills then go for creating a blog and share your knowledge through your blog articles. If you have good speaking skills then go for Vlogging.
You can also create a vlog in parallel to blog. Just create a blog and embed video into your articles so that you can get more traffic, more user engagement, and more earnings$$$.

Boy, 17, admits TalkTalk hacking offences

A 17-year-old boy has admitted hacking offences linked to a data breach at the communications firm TalkTalk, claiming he was "just showing off" to friends.
Norwich Youth Court was told he had used hacking tool software to identify vulnerabilities on target websites.
The data haul netted email addresses, names and phone numbers, as well as 21,000 unique bank account numbers and sort codes.
The boy pleaded guilty to seven charges and will be sentenced next month.

'I have grown up'

The cyber attack on the company in October 2015 prompted fears thousands of people may have had their online details stolen.
The boy told magistrates: "I didn't think of the consequences at the time. I was just showing off to my mates."
"It was a passion, not any more. I won't let it happen again. I have grown up," he added.
His solicitor Chris Brown said he had played a small part in the scam, adding his behaviour had been that of an immature 16-year-old.
The charges against the boy also included attacks on other websites, including the universities of Manchester and Cambridge.
The boy will be sentenced for breaches under the Computer Misuse Act on 13 December. The magistrate said although further reports were needed, they were minded to spare the teenager jail.
Six other people were arrested in connection with the attack.

'Relentless focus'

TalkTalk was fined a record £400,000 last month for security failings which allowed customers' data to be accessed "with ease".
The attack was branded a "car crash" by former information commissioner, Christopher Graham.
The company claimed the hack cost the firm £42m but has since reported a surge in half-year profits.
It said it also lost 98,000 broadband customers in the first half of the year, though this was largely offset by 69,000 new customers signing up.
Dido Harding, chief executive of TalkTalk, said: "One year on we have maintained a relentless focus on looking after our existing customers and keeping up the pace across a wide range of operational improvements."
